Un food truck colombiano en camino… pero necesito tu ayuda para hacerlo realidad

Hola, mi nombre es Julian Puentes, y soy el fundador de Hoppyta Beer & Food, un pequeño negocio familiar que nace de esfuerzo, resistencia y mucho corazón.

No ha sido fácil. A lo largo de mi vida laboral he enfrentado muchos retos. He trabajado duro en distintos oficios, adaptándome y reinventándome cada vez que ha sido necesario. Pero por primera vez, siento que la vida me está abriendo una puerta real con este proyecto: ya logré comprar mi propio food truck.

Ese fue un gran paso, y lo hice con todo lo que tenía —literalmente. Invertí mis ahorros, sacrifiqué comodidades, y puse el alma en esta compra. El camión está en mis manos… pero aún no puede funcionar.

Me quedé sin recursos para acondicionarlo: instalar la cocina, el sistema eléctrico, los permisos, la pintura, el gas, los seguros… todo eso todavía falta. Y ahí es donde necesito tu ayuda.

¿Qué es Hoppyta Beer & Food?

Es una propuesta que celebra el sabor auténtico de Colombia: empanadas, pandebonos, buñuelos, chorizo, arepas, jugos de maracuyá, lulo, mango… Comida honesta, casera y llena de sabor, que ya he llevado a ferias, mercados y eventos como el Carnaval de San Francisco, donde con mucho orgullo y alegría alimentamos a más de 100 personas del grupo La Cumbiamba Colombiana.

Todo lo he hecho desde cocinas prestadas o espacios improvisados. Ahora quiero dar ese salto profesional que tanto cuesta cuando se viene desde abajo: poner en marcha mi propio food truck, con todo lo que se necesita para operar legalmente en California y seguir representando nuestra cultura con dignidad y alegría.

¿En qué se usarán los fondos?

Tu donación me ayudará a:

• Cumplir con los requisitos de salubridad y seguridad del estado

• Cubrir permisos, licencias y seguros

• Pintar el camión y adecuarlo para vender con orgullo productos colombianos

• Comprar el equipamiento básico: plancha, nevera, extractor, tanques, etc.

¿Qué significa tu ayuda?

No estás financiando un sueño cualquiera —estás apoyando a un trabajador que no se rinde. Que ve en la comida una forma de crear comunidad, de construir algo con raíces, y de sacar adelante un negocio familiar con sabor a Colombia.

Hi, my name is Julian Puentes, and I’m the founder of Hoppyta Beer & Food — a small, family-run business built on hard work, resilience, and a whole lot of heart.

The road hasn’t been easy. I’ve worked many different jobs, constantly adapting and pushing forward through life’s challenges. But now, for the first time, I feel like life is giving me a real opportunity: I was able to purchase my own food truck.

That was a huge step — one I took by putting in all my savings, making sacrifices, and going all in. The truck is mine now… but I’ve run out of funds to actually get it working.

What’s Missing?

The truck still needs to be fully outfitted: kitchen installation, plumbing, electrical work, safety equipment, permits, insurance — everything required to operate legally and professionally here in California. And that’s where I need your help.

What is Hoppyta Beer & Food?

It’s my way of bringing the authentic flavors of Colombia to the Bay Area: empanadas, pandebonos, buñuelos, Colombian sausage, arepas, and tropical juices like passionfruit (maracuyá), lulo, and mango. I’ve already been serving these at markets and events — including the San Francisco Carnaval, where we proudly catered breakfast to over 100 members of the traditional Colombian group La Cumbiamba Colombiana.

Up until now, I’ve cooked out of borrowed kitchens and improvised setups. But now, with this truck, I have a real chance to do things right and take this business to the next level.

What Will the Funds Cover?
