HELP US BRING ELLIE HOME!
We have the go ahead to bring Ellie , our 14 year old daughter who has been in ICU since June 14,2020 with Acute Transverse Myelitis, HOME!!!!!
The Quick Facts
-We need funding for medical supplies and a vehicle to drive Ellie in wheelchair.
-Goal $75,000
-Extra funds raised will go directly to the Alberta Children's Hospital.
Ellies Story
Ellie went to bed June 13 a healthy teenager but within 45 minutes of waking the next day she was paralyzed from the neck down and could not breath on her own. She was rushed to the Children's Hospital quickly intubated and has been on a ventilator since. Transverse Myelitis is a neuroimmune condition that effects the spine. Ellies indjury to the spine is from C1-C6, complete paralysis of the body neck down.
Ellie has been fighting ever since. Fighting to breath, fighting to go through horrible amounts of non stop pain, fighting everyday to do her occupational and physical therapy. She now has a trach, a G-tube, and a suprapubic catheter. She is starting to regain some small movements in her hands and arms mostly on her right side. She is still on a ventilator. We have been given the FABULOUS news that medically speaking we can BRING HER HOME in about six weeks, around the first few weeks in December!!!!
We are beyond thrilled as living in the ICU is a very difficult place to be, no less heal and recover. Even though we love the staff at the PICU home will be best for her healing of heart, mind, body, and soul!
We cannot bring Ellie home until we make it safe for her. She will have some nursing care and she will finally be able to relax, see some more people, and start to really heal. BUT here's the issue; Ellie NEEDS certain things to come home. We moved homes to accommodate her coming home and are now working very hard to make our new home (a bungalow) wheelchair accessible. But we need help...SERIOUS help and financially we are maxed out.
What we need:
- a wheelchair lift in Garage
- renevations on one of our bathrooms in our new home.
- a lift for her inside the home to get her from bed to wheelchair.
- a commode (plastic wheelchair to bath and eventually use the toilet)
- various supplies not covered by any funding. Things like suction catheters, small adjustments to doors and walkways, right down to sterile water. The list is large.
- Lastly a Vehicle to take Ellie to her many appointments and her physiotherapy,
I humbly ask for you help. Family, friends, people we've never met PLEASE help us bring our girl home! She has suffered so much and if we can bring her home she can finally leave the trauma behind and start her new life.
If for some miracle we recieved more funding than we need you have our promise we will then donate the extra money back to the Calgary Children's Hospital- directly into programs that have helped Ellie survive.
Whatever your gift amount THANK YOU! If like us your just maxed financially please share this GoFundMe
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Nicole, Devon, Ellie, and Suzie
Help us spread the word by sharing on your social media, with friends, family, co-workers, any companies that might be willing to help support us!
