Dear Friends,
The UMKC Community Accordion Ensemble (a sequel to the incredible days of the UMKC Accordion Orchestras) has been performing for many years at various accordion festivals and around the KC area. After many years of rehearsals and performances, we find ourselves in need of some major repairs on our bass accordion and in need of a new bass amp. These are costly items, but they are necessary for us to continue our work and for us to be in tip-top performance condition for the 2024 ATG Festival celebrating our conductor’s, Joan Sommers’, 90th year. We are not funded by the University. Everything we do is a result of the volunteer efforts of our members and our conductor. Some of us travel a great distance to attend rehearsals so that we can create beautiful music for our audiences.
We are asking for donations to help us take care of our current equipment needs, and we are hoping to raise around $4,500. If we raise more than that amount, we will likely make a recording to preserve our efforts, and the continuing legacy of Joan Sommers, well into the future! If you find yourself in a position to help, we would be most grateful for anything you might be able to contribute to our cause.
