On August 9th, my friend Leslie was given the devastating diagnosis of invasive breast cancer. She is scheduled for surgery on September 6th to remove the cancerous masses and complete additional biopsies for her lymph nodes. Afterwards pending the results of the biopsy, she may need to have a mastectomy and chemotherapy treatments. If she does not need to undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy, she’ll receive radiation for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. She will also be on additional hormone blockers for a minimum of 5 years to prevent spread and recurrence.

The funding will help cover the costs of surgery, treatments, and medications that insurance doesn’t cover, and assist with meal services when she is unable to cook for her and her children.

Leslie is a single mom and sole financial and caretaking provider of her three sons. Funds from this will also be used to help pay for child care needed during medical procedures and help support her family while she’s unable to work.
