Aiden Dimaano is a 9 year old boy with a dream to play professional basketball he is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called synovial sarcoma in July 2017 he had his first surgery soon after. At the end of July, the pathology results from the previous surgery came back reflective for synovial sarcoma. After the diagnosis, he had his second surgery to attempt to achieve closed margins(get all the cancer out). We were told to come back every three months for CT/MRI scans starting December 2017 and again in April 2018 doctors believed he was all clear. He went in for another MRI in June 2018 and that is when the doctors realized they missed a tumor in the previous imaging study. In October 2018 Aiden went through his 3rd surgery to remove the remaining tumor but the orthopedic surgeon found 2 more tumors in his arm. The pathology results came back on October 19, 2018 and found it is a reccurance of synovial sarcoma. Now Aiden must undergo a CT scan to ensure it has not spread to his lungs as well as a bone scan to ensure it has not spread to other bones. Synovial Sarcoma:  this form of cancer is very aggressive and is know to metastasize to neighboring organs such as lungs, brain, lymphatic system, etc.
Aiden will now have to do 3-6 months of chemotherapy with at least 6-8 weeks of recovery. Chemotherapy which is an aggressive form of treatment but as it kills cancer cells it will also kill good cells and in turn make him sick and very weak post treatments. He will have a uphill battle for his life when all is said and done. Our mom is currently a nurse at Kaiser and doing all she can to support him physically, and financially but unfortunately she needs to stop working to be able to take him to treatments and hospitals she will be taking FMLA(family medical leave) which will only pay her 55% of her average monthly for 12 weeks approximately. After that time period is up she will take a non-paid leave getting 0% for 32 weeks where we will not know how to make ends meet with bills, rent, etc. which is why we are grateful for any support and prayers. We all have faith Aiden will make it. These trials and tribulations has put our whole family upside down but we firmly believe god wouldn’t give us something we could not handle thank you for reading. God Bless. #teamaiden
