Saving Callie

Donation protected
Hi my name is Miranda and I’m making this go fund me for my cat Callie who I have had since she was a baby. She currently is only 3 years old so she has so much life left to live. I’m really not the type of person to do something like this but she is my baby and I could just use a little help. On January 16th Callie started to not act like herself. She didn’t come out of her hiding spot all day and didn’t eat the next morning. She was very sleepy and was having some trouble breathing. I took her to the vet on the 17th and she had a fever of 107. They did an ultrasound of her stomach but it was clear with no fluid. She was feline leukemia negative. She received subcutaneous fluids and they drew blood and urine samples. That night I had to hand feed her and bring a water bowl to her mouth for her to eat or drink. She started to seem off balance when she was walking and just wanted to sleep.

On the morning of January 18th she was under the couch in the living room when I woke up. She seemed like she couldn’t get back out so we lifted the couch and got her out and found that she had went to the bathroom under there as well. She was having even more trouble keeping balance when walking now and also flopped off the couch onto her side sporadically. I called the vet and they said to bring her in and they had the blood and urine results as well. Callie’s sodium levels were very high, in the 180’s range. The normal range for a cat is 140-150. Her kidney levels and some other things were also slightly elevated than normal. We rushed to an emergency hospital (avets in monroeville)  to get her special IV fluids. They rechecked her blood and her sodium levels were now in the 190’s range. The vet said she should be in a coma for how high her levels are. My Callie is a fighter and trying to be as strong as she can be. She is not getting enough water to her brain right now so that is why she has been so off balance. This may be permanent brain or nerve damage and it could possibly get worse. If she does get any worse she may not make it.

Callie is now staying overnight at the emergency vet for a few days. They don’t know exactly why her levels are as high as they are but they are doing more tests and giving her fluids to lower her sodium. They plan on doing another stomach scan to make sure she doesn’t have internal bleeding. I already had to pay a down payment of $3,500. I did sign up for care credit but I was only approved for $2,000. I’m estimated to pay at least a total of $4,000-$6,000 once she is done with her IV fluids. If they cannot figure out what is wrong after that and her levels continue to rise, I have the option of getting an MRI for her which will cost an additional $2000. Callie is still alert and aware of her surroundings right now and even still cuddly. I want to fight with her as long as she is willing to fight too.

January 19th update- Callie’s sodium is decreasing but at a slightly faster pace than they wish. She has now developed a mild tremor which could be from it decreasing so fast. They treated her as if she isn’t getting water to her brain but that medicine has not seemed to help. She may be having focal seizures so if the tremor continues they will put her on a temporary seizure medication

Any amount of donation will help in this time of concern to take at least a little bit of weight off my shoulders.
