A More Inclusive Church - UMC Documentary

Donation protected
As some of you might know, the United Methodist Church is meeting February 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri for a special session to discuss the future of the church. The main focus of this special session is to "examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and to explore options to strengthen church unity," (UMC.org, 2019). There are many different sides of this discussion and I am hoping to explore all of them by talking to folks on all sides of the spectrum to get their stories about the church and this decision. Many are not aware that there are people within the church who are fighting for LGTBQ inclusion in the church and my hope is to shed light on this push for change.

My goal is to create a documentary that showcases the many viewpoints as well as the official outcome from the General Conference taking place in a couple of weeks. I have already began filming and I have lined up interviews with people in Charlotte, Cincinnati, and Santa Barbara. I have all of the equipment that I need, however, where I need your help is funding for the travel. In order to get as many sides of the discussion as possible, I am traveling across the country to speak to many people who are in the throes of this decision and whose opinions will have huge affects on the outcome of this conference.

I am hoping to raise $2,000 to cover the costs of travel over the next couple of weeks. As a freelance filmmaker, my hope is to tell a story that gives people a chance to understand what is happening and why. This General Conference will change the path of the United Methodist Church in one way or another and it's an important story to share. Your funding will help me make this documentary and tell the stories of those who are deeply affected by the current stance of the church.

Thank you in advance for any contribution that you can make to this campaign. No matter what, I am determined to share this story and the stories that I have heard from those pushing for change.
