Dogs of homeless parents are their beloved companions and the only source of emotional support. We have witnessed the bond that exists between them and it is extraordinary that if the dogs are separated from their homeless parents, they experience severe anxiety and distress. This is remarkable as these individuals live on the streets and endure very hard conditions day by day, yet their dogs remain loyal and loving. As summers in Phoenix are very intense, these dogs are exposed to the heat by enduring high temperatures in their bodies, and also absorbing extreme heat when they walk on asphalt. On a 100° day, asphalt can easily reach 160°, some areas of Phoenix have even recorded temperatures of 120 to 160°. Imagine what this does to a dog’s paws?
We can’t solve homelessness, but we can help a homeless parent one dog at a time.
Thus is a joint project of Pet2Vets and Mieles Paws (Blanca Mieles Benitez Foundation for Compassionate Animal Care).
