Hi,
We are the University of Maine Model UN Team and International Affairs Association (same club, just with two different names)! We have recently been accepted to go to this year's Harvard University's World Model United Nations Conference in Tokyo from March 15 to 20th. The conference is a full week of non-partisan activities focused on foreign policy and building connections between the future leaders of the world. The University of Maine has a small International Affairs Program, and thus a small Model UN program. This is the first year we have qualified to go to Harvard World MUN, and the first year in a long time that we have gone to more than one conference during the academic year.
However, due to the nature of having to go to Tokoyo for an entire week, the conference is expensive. While UMO is a wonderful school, it does not have a lot of funding set aside for the International Affairs Department. Therefore we need to raise funds to cover registration costs, air travel, and housing for our time there.
Maine is a relatively small state tucked away in the most north-eastern part of America, so the opportunity for the 9 of us to travel to Tokyo is an incredible and rare one. This is a massive opportunity for a group of young Mainers to meet people from all around the world and bring that experience back to the University of Maine.
Our Budget Breakdown and Goals:
Registration Fees (Goal #1): $3,129
Housing (Goal #2): $1,600
Tokyo Rail Passes (Goal #3): $2,533
Air Travel (Goal #4): $6,900
Thank You,
Tim, Virginia, Harrison, Jeremy, Sadie, Alex, Jackson, and Caitlyn
