Hello everyone, my name is Bonnie. I am fundraising for my dog Toby, who is now in critical condition and being closely monitored in the ICU.
On September 26 at 10 p.m., Toby was sleeping peacefully beside me like usual when he suddenly had his very first and major seizure. For a full three minutes, he lost all vital signs and was unconscious. We immediately called VCA Emergency, but they advised us to wait until a second episode before rushing him in. We monitored him closely for 48 hours, and everything seemed fine—I thought maybe it was just a one-time scare.
But on September 29 around 11 a.m., Toby had another seizure, this time even more life-threatening. We rushed him to VCA right away. Before he could even be given sedatives, he seized again. The doctor told us his condition was extremely dangerous and he needed to be transferred to Canada West to see a neurologist. The transfer itself carried the risk that Toby might not survive the trip. But my strong Toby fought through- he made it.
At Canada West, the doctors explained he needs a chest X-ray to check if vomiting during seizures has caused pneumonia, and they started him on two different anti-seizure medications. We are now waiting for CT and MRI scans. Sadly, the doctors suspect it could be something very serious—possibly a brain tumor. Toby is 9 years old, and even though he has always been healthy, there is still a high chance this is the case.
The estimated costs are extremely overwhelming:
$2,500–$5,000 for critical care support (already needed last night)
$5,000–$7,000 for the MRI
$6,000–$8,000 for today’s care, according to the latest estimate from the doctor this morning (Sept 30, 10 a.m.)
As a full-time student who also needs to cover living expenses, I cannot afford these medical costs alone.
The initial $15,000 fundraising goal may only cover today’s expenses, and if Toby’s condition worsens tonight, he may need to return to critical care again. Since we don’t yet have the test results, we still don’t know what his treatment journey will look like. But we pray for Toby, pray that the sezure can be without cause so can be controlled by medication.
For those who know me, you know I never ask for help lightly. But right now, I am in urgent need. I sincerely ask for your support to help Toby. Any contribution will mean the world to us.
