The development of the changing room facilities of the club

Ulverston Sports and Recreation Club Changing Room Redevelopment Project.

Introduction:

Ulverston Sports and Recreation Association is a not for profit organisation based at Priory Road in Ulverston. We are seeking to redevelop the existing changing rooms and bring them up to date to provide welcoming facilities which conform with current specifications and are suitable for both adult players and for children There has in recent years been a huge and very welcome increase in female participation in many sports and we feel that it is therefore important that changing accommodation should reflect this and not be a deterrent. In order to finance the improvement in facilities we are applying for grants which we expect to cover a major proportion of the costs of the redevelopment. The sports clubs that will use the facility when completed have each made a contribution from their own funds. However, as you can imagine the cost of this major redevelopment is substantial and our funding may fall short of the overall expenditure.

History:

Many of you will probably remember, or your Parents and Grandparents will definitely remember the original construction of the club in the 1970’s. The entire project and the fund raising required for it was managed by a small committee of members drawn from the town’s sports clubs. Funds were generated by a wide variety of fund raising events including a “buy a brick campaign,” a wide variety of sponsored events and many other ventures such as the Country and Westerns nights organised and held at the Coronation Hall. All the proceeds came from members of the surrounding Community and with the help of a significant amount of voluntary work the Club was officially opened in July 1979.

The sports club has undergone some changes and improvements over the years particularly to the main club building as and when funds permitted, but these have not extended to the changing facilities. In fact, the changing rooms have had nothing more than routine maintenance and a lick of paint in the 40 plus years since the Club was built.

Many of you within the local community and surrounding areas will have used the changing rooms whether playing for one of the sections such as the football, cricket and rugby or as a visitor playing in the several different leagues against these sections and using these facilities.

Redevelopment Project:

Plans have been drawn by a local architect. These show four changing rooms each complete with showers and toilets which comply with current legislation, and are suitable for both male and female players and for both adults and juniors.

Future:

Football, Cricket and Rugby sections are all experiencing significant growth in participation, particularly in the numbers of junior players and as we wish to foster an ethos of belonging and pride in our various sports clubs we need to bring our outdated and unwelcoming changing rooms up to an acceptable modern standard.

The ask:

We are asking the Community to come together once again with this go fund me account to help raise the outstanding amount needed to provide this much needed community asset. The initial request is to raise £5000 but it would be great if we could exceed this amount.

Please donate as little or as much as you can to this worthy Community development whether you are a household, a small / large business or other local organisation.
