An Ounce of Prevention

13,400,000 confirmed infections, 580,000 dead. More than 1 million new cases in 5 days. MSN
Global economy estimated to lose 21 trillion dollars. Scitechdaily
Alarming statistics. And it looks as if things are going to get worse before any of the vaccines in development are generally available. Treatment strategies have improved, but you still have a good chance of leaving the hospital in a body bag after running up a 100,000$ bill. Even if you survive, you can have permanent damage and, of course, a huge bill.
Then there's the lifestyle impact. Only hermits like me aren't getting cabin fever. Forget restaurants. Give up on seeing a new movie in a theater. Concerts will be on TV only. Sports also. Summer is slipping away and so will fall and winter. There is no realistic chance of salvaging 2020, at least here in the U.S.
The only thing to be gained is a lesson: An ounce of prevention is worth a gigaton of cure.
Now is the time to start trying to salvage 2021.
Now is the time to prevent the next pandemic.
My name is JO 753. I am The Prez of ZOL inc., an R&D prototype firm in Wauconda Illinois. We are working on that ounce of prevention.
Since early April 2020 we have been developing the UVPK (UltraViolet Pathogen Killer) mask/helmet. It is a device that uses ultraviolet light to kill the coronavirus and all other airborne pathogens before they can get inside you. That includes bacteria, fungus, mold, viruses, prions - anything with genes in it that was on it's way to your nose, mouth or eyes will not make it.
An important aspect of this is that it will kill pathogens that we don't know about yet. Before they have the opportunity to start another pandemic.
A wake up call to everyone who is banking on vaccines to stop the coronavirus pandemic.
1. Vaccines are never 100% effective. Dr. Anthony Fauci has said he would be happy if a C-19 vaccine was 75% effective, meaning 75% of the people getting the vaccine gain resistance to infection.
That means there could still be 25 people in your circle of 100 vaccinated contacts who are potentially contagious.
And it could easily be far less than 75%. Last season's flu vaccine, for example, was only 45% effective.
2. The first available vaccines are likely to have problems. This could include safety issues such as side effects in some genetic groups or people with other medical conditions. There could be problems with the dosage amount or carrier medium that don't show up until millions of people have been vaccinated.
3. Many people are aware of this and will refuse to be guinea pigs. Whether or not it was a wise decision will not be known till much later, but the immediate overall effect will be to help the pandemic continue.
4. The Coronavirus will eventually mutate enough to render the vaccine useless. At this point there's no telling how quickly it can do it. A billion doses of a vaccine can be manufactured and distributed, only to find they are already obsolete.
We have to face the fact that Covid-19 is going to be with us indefinitely. Like the flu, the common cold, herpes, HIV and dozens of other pathogens, it will become another player on the battlefield.
There is a way to stop it.
The UVPK mask/helmet could stop the pandemic in it's tracks. All viruses are dependent on a host's DNA to reproduce. If the host's immune system can defeat it before it has spread to another host, it's game over, man! Hasta la vista, baby!
If you could get practically everybody to wear a UVPK mask or helmet when they go out, the pandemic would be over as soon as the last infected person either kicked the virus or kicked the bucket.
Of course, that's not going to happen, but if you can get enuff people to protect themselves enuff of the time, the R0 (average number of people infected by contagious individuals) goes below 1 and the pandemic fades away and the C-19 virus only gets to cause occasional manageable outbreaks.
Another benefit is that it will have the same effect on the flu, which has been dogging the human race for centuries, normally killing around 400,000 per year and occasionally millions. (estimates put the 1918 - 1920 flu pandemic toll at 50 to 100 million)
The real beauty of this is that the UVPK mask/helmet will prevent the next viral pandemic from ever happening.
In a way, we may have gotten lucky here. Instead of this particular virus, it could have been one that's way more contagious and way deadlier. Ebola (around 50% fatality rate) could have mutated to spread as fast or faster than C-19. A completely new class of virus could have emerged from the jungle. HIV could have mutated to become airborne.
It could still happen. Viruses mutate all the time. It's what they do.
If we are commonly armored with the UVPK, if any such event happens, there will be no devastating, civilization ending pandemic.
Research and Development.
So far, we have been financing the R&D project ourselves, but the next stages require real money. It will take at least 500,000 dollars to move from the proof-of-concept prototypes to a production ready design. A meager sum compared to the daily toll the pandemic is taking on the economy.
If you're in the U.S., your share of Uncle Sam's effort to prop up the economy is over 20,000$ so far. And I emphasize so far because it is already set to go higher and if we do not get all hands on deck to find solutions, that 20,000$ for each and every citizen could double, triple, quadruple, etc. until it exceeds the Fed's ability to print fake money.
So toss me a 20; 1/1,000 of your debt. Tell your buddies to do the same. Tell them to tell their buddies. Then, with a little luck, the ZOL inc. UVPK helmets and masks will be available and life can go back to near normal.
Donations will pay for testing, certification, facility costs, supplies, equipment and any outside services needed.
