Ultrasound for Panliet, South Sudan
Donation protected
South Sudan has been devastated by unrest and war over the past few decades. As a result, healthcare access and services suffer. A newborn has a 25% chance of dying before the age of five years old, and 780 women die for every 100,000 births. Life expectancy is only 57 years. Worst of all, the major causes of mortality are curable diseases, such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, and malnutrition.
Joseph Deng has devoted his life to giving back and saving lives in his community of Panliet, South Sudan. Following his experience as a Lost Boy of Sudan, Joseph immigrated to the USA and became a practicing nurse in Tarpon Springs, FL. Between working at a nursing home and providing for his family, Joseph still travels annually to his rural village of Panliet, South Sudan to deliver over the counter medications to those in need with his organization South Sudan Life Care Mission (SSLCM). After working with Joseph for eight years, I can attest to his selflessness and passion for helping those in need; because of heroes like Joseph, thousands of civilians are getting the aid that they desperately require. Through donations from supporters like you, Joseph and SSLCM constructed a functional, insulated clinic in October of 2020, which consists of three rooms, ten beds, and three full time employees and has the capacity to serve up to twenty patients at a time. In this clinic, Joseph and his medical team are able to provide medication distribution, wound treatment, and maternal care to around 900 patients per month.
Joseph will be traveling to South Sudan in March 2024, and during this upcoming trip, he hopes to raise the funds to purchase an ultrasound for his clinic. An ultrasound will allow for imaging services as well as enhanced maternal care, costing an estimated $7,000. All other funds will assist in funding the daily functions of the clinic.
Over the years, I have greatly appreciated all of your support, and I hope we can make this the best year yet. Please help and donate to this cause so thousands of South Sudanese citizens get the medical attention they need to see another day. Thank you!
