Ultrasound for Jim Jam
Jim Jam is an adorable elderly cat of almost 11 years old that me and my partner took on from the Celia Hammond rescue centre last year. Despite being blind and having a heart murmur he is a wonderfully independent cat that still manages to get up to mischief and wakes me up every morning by walking across my face. He loves a cuddle and eating Dreamies, and is just the most gentlest, loving cat.
Unfortunately, Jim Jam has been unwell for a few months - he is vomiting on a regular basis which has become progressively worse in the last few weeks. Just before Christmas Jim Jam vomited 3 times in one day and had to be taken to the vets as an emergency. We have taken him to the vets a number of times to find out what’s causing his vomiting and just paid out nearly £200 for a blood test which has not flagged anything up, and have now been told that he needs an ultrasound to investigate his heart and abdomen and been quoted £950, which we simply can’t afford.
Although we have insurance in place for Jim Jam it does not cover pre existing conditions that Jim Jam has so will not cover for an investigative procedures or treatment related to his heart.
We have been for many consultations in the last few months which myself and my partner have covered the cost for ourselves, but because of the ongoing restrictions with covid I have barely worked in the last year in my job as a self employed sports massage therapist and exercise instructor in care homes, and am now in lockdown with no income for the foreseeable.
I understand I am asking a lot and many people are in the same situation and struggling financially as I am, but I have seen how wonderfully supportive people can be in times of need. Any small amount will help towards his treatment. We need to get the ultrasound done ASAP as whatever the cause is, is clearly progressing.
The rescue centre where we originally got Jim Jam from is also struggling with donations and an influx of cats being abandoned so we are not wanting to put extra financial pressure on them to cover the full cost of the ultrasound when they desperately need money themselves.
Jim Jam has not had an easy life, being an elderly blind cat with a poorly heart and ending up in a rescue when his previous owners could no longer care for him. It must have been very distressing and confusing, so we want to keep him and continue to care for him and make this wonderful little cats life as comfortable and happy as possible in his twilight years. Please help if you can.
