2020 was a rough year for everyone, but even tougher for Wendy. She was diagnosed with nueroendocrine carcinoid. They thought it was colon cancer, but unfortunately it’s an incredibly rare cancer that has no cure. It will be a lifetime of treatment and surgeries.
Her first surgery was in January, 17 days after diagnosis, and it was Stage 3. By May it was Stage 4.
The last week of December delivered more bad news. After her repeat PET scans it was determined she still has tumors that are still Stage 4. The plan, for now, is to continue with the same treatments and repeat testing in 3 months. They do not want to do surgery right now due to the risks associated with the cancer spreading, but will consult with the surgeon.
The new year also brings the stress of starting her deductible all over again. She has a demanding job and her son is active in Melissa Middle School sports, which leaves little time for the rest her body requires.
