Anna’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
I set up this GoFundMe page to help my Aunt Anna Ward with expenses due to a severe car accident. Her life was drastically changed on January 4, 2023 when a teenager and four of his friends stole a car and went on a crime spree. He decided to go through a red light, lost control of the car and slammed into my aunt’s car. The impact crushed in the side of her car and then sent her head-on into a traffic light pole. The car is totaled.
Thanks to her seat belt and air bags, my Aunt Anna is alive! Praise God! She suffered multiple injuries including a gash to her neck and chest from the seatbelt, burns from the airbags, and the most serious, a shattered heel bone. The severe damage to her car left first responders no choice but to cut the car open to get her out. She was then transported to the hospital, where she remained for a full week before being transferred to a rehabilitation center, where she is still recovering. With injuries to both legs and, in particular, the inoperable shattered heel bone, she was rendered unable to walk and care for herself. Her care has and continues to include: curative care, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. She has required transportation to and from her many doctor appointments via ambulance. These appointments are necessary for her continued efforts toward recovery and they are currently scheduled to continue through January 2024. The doctor anticipates the healing process to take 6 to 12 months because of the severity of the bone, nerve, and tissue damage. There is also no guarantee that there will not be permanent damage.
Since the young man that hit my aunt was driving a stolen vehicle, there is no insurance or other way to recoup the money she is losing by not working and the mountain of medical care bills.
I am hoping to raise $75,000 to help cover her medical bills, specialized equipment, and monthly bills while she is forced to be out of work. At the time this was posted the portion of medical bills not covered by her insurance was over $37,000. Your donations can be made anonymously through GoFundMe and would be greatly appreciated. If you are not able to contribute, would you please share this link with your family and friends by text or through Facebook?
Thank you and God bless you for taking the time to read about my Aunt Anna’s story.
