Our Ukrainian Friends

As Russia continues their invasions of the Ukraine, Brett & I, with several others are committed to helping two Ukrainian families, the first of which is the Likarenko family who look to seek refuge in Canada.

These families were posted to Ottawa and were all part of the International Attache Community and became part of the Ottawa fabric. These wonderful people who we became friends with, are now in very serious trouble.

 

Currently their situation is extremely precarious.

 

When the bombs started to drop on Kyiv, they literally ran with only the clothes on their backs, and lived for 10 days in the underground’s. An experience that can only be described as horrific.

 

Since then they have reached temporary refuge in Warsaw and are now working to come to Canada. Their homes are gone, there is no luggage, their cars are gone, there is nothing.

 

Currently we are raising money to help pay for their flights to Ottawa, rent for six months, food and utilities. Our objective is to help provide stability.

 

Elise Mercier at NS Immigration is providing pro-bono legal services for their applications to Canada, and other friends are working on finding affordable housing and furnishings for when they arrive.

 

My ask is a personal one, that you might consider a donation to this effort to help us support these families. Typical donations have been in the $250-$500 range, but donations between $25-$100 have been gathering steam too.  All donations will be very appreciated..

I have opened a stand alone account for them, and 100% of the collections will be passed directly to them (less the GoFundMe Fees).  Some friends prefer knowing the people who are receiving  assistance, others prefer a more global donation to leverage money. Any choice is a good one.

Current Status: Our families are  currently waiting to complete requirements for their applications to Canada. Once they receive their VISA’s we can book their flights to Ottawa.
