Ukrainian Family of 8 in shelter needs help

Alina is a mother of seven children and a Christian who has been living in Canada for three years. Alina’s oldest daughter currently lives independently, works, and supports herself. Six of Alina’s underage children live with her, as well as her mother, who came from Ukraine seeking safety from the war.

In June, Alina and her six children were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. As a result of the crash, her health was significantly affected. Since then, she has been unable—and still is unable—to perform physical work. During this same period, child benefit payments were delayed for a long time, leaving the family without their main source of income and without the ability to pay rent on time.

In October, due to the lack of funds and the inability to cover housing expenses, Alina lost her rental home. On October 10, she was forced to move with her six children and her mother into a shelter. The family has been living there for two months now and can stay only one more month, after which there is an urgent need to find permanent housing.

Alina is actively searching for a solution; however, she faces serious challenges. Due to the large number of children, most landlords refuse to rent to her. Additionally, because of her health condition, she cannot provide proof of official income and does not have sufficient funds. Although three-bedroom housing is technically available on the market, landlords are not willing to rent it to a family with so many children. Alina’s mother is also looking for a separate room or a basement suite, but so far without success.

Despite these difficult circumstances, the family is trying to maintain stability. Alina and her children attend English language classes. All the children are enrolled in school and daycare and are receiving proper care.

Alina came to Canada three years ago without her husband, expecting that the father of her children would join her. However, during this time, he neither came nor provided any financial or other support. As a result, they divorced, and the full responsibility for supporting the family fell solely on Alina.

As of today, Alina and her family are in an extremely vulnerable situation and urgently need support, particularly in securing stable housing and ensuring safe and consistent living conditions for the children.
