Ukrainian Books for Refugee Kids in Austria

Howdy! We are the non-profit "Worte und Taten" (Words and Deeds) based in Vienna, Austria. Our mission is to use art to support people in need. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, we have helped coordinate two charity events, where artist donated their works to raise funds for St. Barbara Church's volunteering center in Vienna. https://www.spende.st-barbara-austria.org/

Additionally, we are currently helping collect money for art supplies for Ukrainian refugee kids, so they can have an opportunity to forget some worries and express their feelings through art (see our picture above).

NOW, this step is to get Ukrainian books imported to Austria. Help give kids the chance to not forget their own, while learning a new culture. Let's enable the mothers to connect with their kids and read them bedtime stories in their own language. In Austria we have at the moment approx. 64.000 refugees (mainly mothers with childern).

Our proven partner, St. Barbara Church, has started a small library of literature in the Ukrainian language. We also have contact with local libraries. They confirmed interest in receiving books in the Ukrainian language. Together with St. Barbara Church's librarian, we have contacted an initiative established by refugees in Germany, who work (remote now) for the Central Children's Library in Kyiv. https://bookwithoutborders.com//en

With their help and coordination our aim is to channel the recommended books for Ukrainian children and teenagers within Austria. Here we will distribute the books to the various cooperating libraries.

This project is in line with the Words and Deeds mission, using art and literature to help people in need.

Thank you for your time and generosity. Help make art, not war!
