Many parks and protected areas in Ukraine have been ravaged due to the ongoing war which has caused severe damage to critical environmental lands and biodiversity. Impacted natural areas are home to thousands of species of plants and animals, many of which are endemic or threatened. These lands also provide vital ecosystem services for human well-being throughout the region. Urgent efforts are needed to not only prevent further land degradation and dangerous wildfires, but also to support vital conservation and restoration efforts.
Passionate conservationists seek to continue their important work in these protected areas, but war impacts have left them without electricity, mobile communication, or heating. Equipment and facilities have been destroyed.
The Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) seeks your support to help supply basic items that will enable critical conservation efforts to continue. Donations will be managed by the SCGIS Ukraine Chapter and 100% of donations will go to the purchase of generators, batteries, laptops, internet communication devices, heating devices, and sleeping bags that are required for this work. Please join us to support conservation GIS practitioners in protecting and restoring Ukraine’s natural landscapes under exceptionally difficult circumstances.
SCGIS will match the first $5,000 in donations for this critically important need. SCGIS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to support and grow an inclusive global community using geospatial technology for conservation of biodiversity, natural environments, and cultural heritage.
