Making an impact on one family

Hi Everyone,

 

My name is Arthur Ogorzalek, and I am an MSC for Chicago West. I was born and raised in Cracow, Poland – country next to Ukraine.

 

I have been watching the latest developments on the war in Ukraine and grew more and more concerned. Let me share some of my thoughts:

 

There is an exodus of Ukrainian refugees fleeing west, mainly to Poland.

Only women and children can leave the country. Men 16-60 are NOT allowed to leave {they are called to duty} Families are separated, which causes enormous anxiety.

 

Poland is said to take in as many as 1,300,000 refugees as of 3/18/22.

We don't have the resources to accommodate these wonderful folks the right way.

I decided to help one family and make a tremendous impact in their lives and on their fate. Their story is below.

They realized there was nothing to go back to (their house has been damaged) so they are making Poland their new home. They do not want to be refugees. They want to be productive members of the society. They want to work.

"My name is Tania. I have got two wonderful children. Son Vladyslav is 9 years old and daughter Olia is 4 years old. We came from Ukraine. We moved across the border thanks to a special bus for women and children.

 

My husband stayed behind. He is fighting for our country now. My 74-year-old father stayed at home in Ukraine.

 

Removal was significant stress for the children and me because we left everything and everybody we love. Before the war, I worked at school as an English teacher. Now we are in Poland and get shelter from very kind persons. I dream about having means for a temporary flat. I dream of going to work in Poland, so my kids can see me as a teacher, not a refugee.. The start is the hardest part.

 

A lot of people are very friendly to us in Poland. We miss our home to the moon and back and believe that Ukraine will win this war and everything will be fine."
