When I first arrived in Ukraine as a Peace Corps Volunteer in 2019, I lived with a family for two months in a small city called Berdychiv during our initial language and technical training. My host mom Olena and her children, Arseny, Lavrin, and Nastya, welcomed me into their family and made me feel at home in a new place. Now, they need our help staying afloat for the next few months after three years of full-scale war. Please read Olena's story below and consider donating. Thank you.

Hello! 

My name is Olena, I am from Ukraine, and I came here to ask for help for my family. I'm raising three children alone: a daughter Nastya, 10 years old, and two sons: Lavrin, 13 and Arseny, 17. I work as a secretary in a court, earn approximately $280 per month. I am legally not allowed to have a second job in my position, but my salary is not enough for the minimum needs of my family, such as food, rent, utilities, children's education. I am forced to use a credit card, the debt on which grows every day. 

The only way out I see is to quit my job and find work online as a freelancer. Because the traditional jobs in my town, in conditions of war and with prices that have doubled or tripled for everything, do not allow me to feed my family. 

I'm going to become a tutor and give Ukrainian lessons to foreigners, in English. If you are interested in such lessons, want to learn Ukrainian or learn more about Ukraine, I will be happy to help you with it. 

The amount that my family needs per month is approximately 50,000 hryvnias, which is around $1,000. This amount includes food, rent, children's education and needs and credit card debt payment. I will be incredibly grateful to anyone who will help us survive until I can support my family on my own.

Мене звати Олена, я з України, і я прийшла сюди попросити про допомогу для своєї родини. Я сама виховую трьох дітей: доньку Настю, 10 р. та двох синів: Лавріна, 13 р. та Арсенія, 17 р. Я працюю секретарем в суді, отримую мінімальну зарплату в розмірі приблизно $280, і мені, як державному службовцю, заборонено працювати на інших роботах. Моєї заробітної плати не вистачає навіть на мінімальні потреби родини, такі як їжу, оренду, комунальні послуги, навчання дітей. Я змушена користуватися кредитною картою, борг по якій щодня росте.

Єдиний вихід, який я бачу - це звільнитися з роботи і знайти роботу онлайн, як фрілансер. Тому що традиційні роботи в моєму місті, в умовах війни та з цінами, які виросли вдвічі-тричі на все, не дозволяють мені прогодувати родину.

Я планую стати репетитором та давати англомовні онлайн уроки української мови іноземцям. Якщо ви зацікавлені в таких уроках, бажаєте вивчати українську мову чи дізнатися більше про Україну, я буду рада вам з цим допомогти.
