Rita's Recovery Fund

This fundraiser is for my Wife, Rita Heatherly. Rita was diagnosed with cancer in January 2016- just a week after her 50th birthday. Over the last 6.5 years, Rita’s cancer has moved from her lungs to her rib bone and now to her brain as of June 2022. Rita has undergone chemo, radiation, immunotherapy treatments, and countless studies to help slow the spread of her cancers. Currently, Rita and her doctors are focused mostly on her brain cancer diagnosis.

Rita has spent a large portion of her life as a Pediatric Nurse with Atrium Health. With her newest cancer discovery, she is unable to work while also managing her doctor’s appointments and overall recovery. This fundraiser is to help her focus on her recovery and not on her medical bills and regular bills at home.

If you’ve ever interacted with Rita for even just a few minutes, you know how beautiful of a soul she is. Rita is the human embodiment of sunshine and goodness in the world. She is always looking for ways to help others and make this world a better place- one interaction at a time.

As of July 20th, 2022, Rita completed her 10 rounds of full brain radiation. The following Friday, Rita opted to be admitted into in-home Hospice Services to help keep her as comfortable as possible while also still being able to spend time with her prized possessions- her family. Her next step is to focus on resting while spending time with her husband, siblings, kids, grandkids, and friends.
