UK-MED Middle East Crisis Appeal

UK-Med is one of the largest emergency healthcare providers in the Middle East, with expert teams on the ground equipped to help those in desperate need of medical attention.
Over 44,000 people have been killed in Gaza and over 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since 7 October 2023, including thousands of children. The health needs are overwhelming with local hospitals treating injured and sick people whilst also being impacted by the conflict themselves. The crisis is devastating.
As one of the largest health providers in Gaza, UK-Med employs more than 570 local Palestinian staff and has rotated nearly 30 NHS medics through Gaza, among them emergency doctors, nurses, midwives, surgeons, and GPs.
With the expertise of specialist doctors and surgeons, over 300,000 people have been treated, including over 1,600 surgeries, seeing over 1,400 patients a day.
NHS Anaesthetist from Lancashire, Dr Matthew Newport, who has deployed four times with UK-Med, said:
“I’ve seen more violent death in Gaza in the last few months than I have in the last ten years in the NHS. But despite the volume of work, we are making an impact, saving lives and relieving some of the relentless suffering.”
Dr Ahed, a Palestinian primary health doctor with UK-Med said:
“We are seeing vitamin deficiencies and lack of nutrition among all age groups, but the most vulnerable are children, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women. For patients who are injured, protein deficiency impairs the healing process and increases the rate of wound infections. Most if not all of the patients I see are suffering from lack of nutrition.”
As an aspiring medic myself, I am deeply passionate about the fundamental human right to access quality medical care and attention. I strongly believe that everyone deserves equitable healthcare, and I am committed to contributing to this cause. The denial of access to food, medical supplies, electricity, and fuel is having a profoundly detrimental impact on civilians in the Middle East and contributing to their unacceptable deaths.
We urgently need your support to respond to the growing and urgent need in the Middle East.
Thank You,
Mahveen K
