On the 13th May 2026, I will be setting off on my biggest challenge yet, at 63. I am cycling from John O Groats to Lands Ends, yes, I’m doing it the opposite way round as my brain thinks its all downhill that way (I wish). I will roughly be doing 1,030 miles in 14 days and on a £40 e bay bike!!
I have set myself this challenge to:
• Promote positive ageism and show you can achieve anything if you believe you can
. You can overcome hurdles and setbacks
• To raise funds to benefit others
Sport has always been a huge part of my life, at 30 that all stopped, when I developed chronic back problems. I was diagnosed with degenerative discs, osteoporosis and a fracture of the spine causing a curve in my back. This changed when I started classes at First Place Fitness in Kendal a couple of years ago. With Tracy Dixon’s guidance, encouragement, support and belief I am now in the best physical and mental shape I have been for a while. This shows the positive impact exercise has on us.
I’m doing this challenge to raise funds for 2 good causes–
In Memory of Poppy Atkinson. I want to continue Poppy’s legacy by supporting grassroots football teams across the UK. Myself and my two sons have benefited from grassroots football.
Poppy was 10 years old when she sadly passed way last year from a tragic incident, doing what she loved, playing football.
Poppy’s infectious energy, determination and love for football touched countless lives in her community and beyond. She had a dream to become a professional football. I’m sure Poppy would want her spirt and legacy to carry on and to continue to inspire all young footballers to follow their dreams.
As well as supporting Poppy fund, I will also be raising funds for David Forsyth who is part of the Tracy Dixon First Place Fitness community , where I attend classes and events. David was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) at a young age. This is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and is life limiting. The funds raised will enable him to continue to live life to the fullest with his family.
Any donation big or small would be hugely appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to visit my go fund me page.
