Shawn Amerlinck, AKA The Pet Butler has been a staple within the Windsor Pet Community for decades. Shawn began as a Vet Tech at Forest Glade Animal Hospital, but took the big step forward into the entrepreneurial world as owner/operator of My Pet's Butler in 2011. Over the years Shawn has gained the trust and confidence of his clients, always going above and beyond. Always being there for his clients regardless, and always putting his own needs last.
Shawn's strength was found in his love for animals, his attention to detail, and the appreciation he always received from his clients. As his business grew, so did the stresses, slowly resulting in a decline in his mental health. The Covid crisis is what put Shawn over the edge, resulting in several hospitalisations. Shawn managed to maintain the business the best he could until midway through 2024. He is no longer able to work.
His mental health has continued to spiral downward resulting in him jumping off the Ambassador Bridge on October 7. Through the grace and power of God, Shawn survived, but not undamaged. Having lost his home, his relationship, his business, his friendships, he decided he wanted to also lose his life.
He's been given a second chance.

The sad truth is that there is not much out there in terms of social support programs for people who are suffering mental illness like Shawn.
If you are on his social media you will understand first hand the severity of the situation with Shawn, as he uses Facebook as one of his only outlets as a cry for help. The outpouring of support on Facebook is so wonderful to see, but I know some want to do more than just post a word of support.
The best thing for Shawn right now needs to be community support. He was released from the hospital into an empty apartment where he sits all day alone. His mental illness has cost him his finances as Shawn is very close to being homeless.
What does he need?
This Go Fund Me page is set up if anyone can help support Shawn through this difficult time. He is unable to pay his rent, he is facing charges and fines related to his suicide attempt, and his vehicle being impounded.
What he needs even more would be emotional and physical support. I know some people have been sending meals over to Shawn at his apartment. This has been so wonderful.
What would be more wonderful would be if someone could share a meal with Shawn or take him out for a coffee. Distract him from his depression. Encourage him to participate in programs to support him, and allow him to share his story with you. The best way to keep him alive is to keep him engaged.
