UK TEACHER FIGHTING FOR LIFE IN TURKISH HOSPITAL!

Donation protected
UK teacher left fighting for her life in Turkish hospital - Help for hospital treatment, repatriation and legal costs to bring her home.

Michelle is a 46 year old mother who was born and has lived in the Uk all of her life until recently when she found her dream job teaching in Istanbul Turkey.

Michelle qualified as a teacher in 2011 and two years ago she decided to pursue her dream to live and work abroad. She got an opportunity to teach on a temporary contract and loved it out there. On her return to England she decided that she eventually wanted Turkey to be her new home and put her plan into action.
The school admired her work ethnic and didn't want to let her go and Michelle was welcomed back on a longer contract in 2019.

Just shy of a year into her contract, Michelle decided that she would have elective surgery during the summer break from school.

Not questioning the hospitals professionalism or having any doubts that the procedure wouldn't be a success Michelle done her research and booked herself in for Friday 14th August 2020 at a private hospital in Istanbul Turkey.
Michelle put 100% trust, faith and her life in the hands of the medical staff.

After being admitted to the hospital for the planned procedure on Friday 14th August 2020, something went very wrong. Shortly after the general anaesthetic was administered, Michelle's family recevied a dreaded telephone call explaining that she had suffered a cardiac arrest lasting 1.5 minutes and a prolonged seizure lasting 3 hours on and off once revived.

Upon hearing the news her daughter and three sisters booked on the first flight during the midst of Covid-19 pandemic to be at her side in the intensive care unit. It's been 5 1/2 weeks now and Michelle has made small progress however, the family feel that she would make more progress with the health and medical facilities we have back in the UK.

The family are still receiving conflicting versions of what happened on the morning of 14th August 2020 and the hospital have refused to open or carryout an internal investigation until legal proceedings commence.

The family have a range of expertise and experience between them in the health and medical field and have enquired about the hospitals procedures and ethical practices to no avail as the staff questioned have been obstructive and even threatened the family with legal proceedings to recover payment for her care whilst in ICU.

Although, Michelle had health insurance unfortunately, it does not cover for elective respectively cosmetic surgery, so Michelle is currently in an ICU and the costs are mounting.

Michelle is currently being fed via a nasogastric tube through her nose and is awaiting a surgical procedure to have a percutaneous gastrostomy (PEG) fitted which has been discussed as a need by the hospital, again as there is an issue with payment the hospital are now refusing treatment she needs.

We as a family know and believe there is still hope and they're not doing everything possible to ensure she receives the best treatment and care especially as they are more concerned with chasing payment.

Michelle entered the private hospital completely healthy and what her future will look like no one knows.
Michelle has no family in Turkey, only work colleagues who she has formed close  bonds with during her time thus far.

Michelle has a loving  daughter and family who would very much like her back in her natural home so we can oversee her care. No one is able to be in Turkey permanently to check and support her recovery and sadly, due to the bureaucracy and the cost involved we are not able to repatriate her back to the UK so she can continue her care with her loved ones around her.

We have started legal proceedings to find out what happened and hold the hospital to account for their failings but this could take years and we really need her back home now.

We estimate the cost of her care to date and the quotes given from a few medical repartriation companies to escort her home to the UK on a private medical plane and legal fees would cost in the region of £100,000.

We as a family would appreciate if you could dig deep and help fund bringing Michelle back to her birth home where we are confident she will receive the treatment, rehabilitation and care that she needs.

Michelle is a loving daughter, mother of one, the eldest of four sisters, aunty to many and much more. She has a zest for life, a word smith with a passion for the game of scrabble, enjoys beating anyone that will play monopoly with her, active ice-skater, and loves spending time with her family.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any amount you are able to give will be immensely appreciated we thank you all in advance.
