UK Students for Sri Lanka Emergency Relief

Hello everyone, I'm sure by now everyone who is visiting this GoFundMe page has witnessed the horrifying events that unfolded in Sri Lanka on the 21st of April 2019.  The country is reeling  from the eight major explosions that took the lives of 290 innocent people with an additional 500+ injured. While settling into the aftermath of the disaster, there are still numerous bombs that are being defused all around.

We, the Sri Lankan community of the UK, have more security in our lives than anyone of our loved ones and general population back in our country.  We should take this privilege to go above and beyond to extend our hand to the ones in need of more security right now.  This GoFundMe page has been set up by the students of the Sri Lankan societies of the UK universities in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Colombo to raise £3000 for emergency relief. This is in no means a limit but a minimal goal. (£1= 226.65 Sri Lankan Rupees which in itself is enough to fund for one meal, if not more.)

We have banded together to work towards this shared goal in hopes that more and more people will be encouraged to get involved  as a result. We can get through this with unity, thank you in advance for your generosity! Donations are not limited to UK residents or students,  just please spread the word. Our country needs us more than ever!

Thank you to the Sri Lankan societies of the following universities for their initiative:
University of Manchester
Imperial College London
University of Bristol
University College London
King's College London
University of Birmingham
London School of Economics
University of Warwick
University of Sheffield
University of Salford
Kingston University
University of Southhampton
City, University of London
University of Nottingham
Queen Mary University of London
University of Liverpool
University of Huddersfield
University of Glasglow
+ more will hopefully be announced!

And thank you to the Rotary Club of Colombo for making this possible.

I, Neluni Dissanayake, along with the other Presidents of the Sri Lankan societies take responsibility for this GoFundMe page.

*update on 25th of April*
The formal letter regarding the Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial's role in this fundraiser has been received.
Once the situation is more under control in Sri Lanka, we will post a detailed project plan. However we do know the key focus would be rehabilitation in affected areas by providing necessities. As mentioned in the letter, it should be highlighted that a "need assessment" has to be carried out before allocating such large amount of funds efficiently.
Additionally, We've been in touch with GoFundMe and will work with them, to get funds to the right place.
