The Simpsons' lives have been turned upside down since the Monday after the Super Bowl of 2024. That day, Kendra went into work and her coworkers noticed how yellow she was and that she needed to go see a doctor. Her first appointment led to a CT scan that showed a large mass on her pancreas. That led to surgery in February of 2024 to put a stent in the bile duct of her gallbladder and to biopsy the mass. It was determined that she had a large neuroendocrine tumor on her pancreas. For nearly a year, Kendra went through various chemo treatments to shrink the tumor. It never shrank.
February of this year, a year after her diagnosis, Kendra went in for surgery. They knew going in that she would need to have her gallbladder removed and at least a portion of her pancreas removed in order to take out the tumor. The surgery lasted over 10 hours. At one point, the three surgeons who were working on her nearly gave up, but they were determined to push through. The tumor was far bigger than anyone had expected or that the scans had shown. That's why it hadn't hardly shrunk during her chemo treatments. In surgery, they removed her entire pancreas, her gallbladder, her spleen, part of her small intestines, part of her stomach; and all of this required them to then resect the vein (cut out and tie in a new vein) to her liver. She spent weeks recovering in the surgical ICU before spending more weeks recovering at the hospital before she could go home.
In the past 100 days, Kendra has spent 45 days in the hospital for a multitude of reasons ranging from initial recovery, fluid buildup, confusion, infection, and everything in between. With everything done to her body in the surgery, she is a walking miracle; but her body is still having to figure out how to function with half of her insides removed. Without her spleen, she is very susceptible to infection and does not have the ability to fight off those infections without assistance. It truly has just been one thing after the next since her surgery, and it still feels as if she is yet to recover from everything that was done to her.
The fact is that she is a very sick girl, and all of this has been extremely taxing on her, on her husband Justin, and even on their 6-year-old little boy Jeyden, who just wants his mommy to feel better again. Both Justin and Kendra's parents, as well as their families, have been pillars for them throughout this ordeal, seeking to do everything they can to help ease the stress and turmoil this has put them under.
By God's grace, the medical bills for this year are all covered now under insurance; however, with Kendra being out of work for so long, the regular monthly bills are beginning to pile up and causing Justin and Kendra both grave concerns as they are currently on his salary alone. Kendra has not been able to work since her surgery, and there is no indication that she will be able to go back to work anytime soon. Justin works for Hillsborough County Public Schools as a plumber. He has attempted to pick up extra work and extra shifts, working 10-hour shifts and picking up shifts on Fridays and Saturdays when he can. Even with his best efforts, as it stands, it is not enough to cover the mortgage along with his other monthly expenses.
Plain and simple, the Simpsons have been able to defer their mortgage up to this point with all of their medical emergencies, but now they are coming due and they only have enough saved up to cover two months' payment. They need your help. Justin and Kendra are two of the sweetest and kindest people you will ever meet. Everyone out at Plant City Little League that knows them will attest to it. Justin would give you the shirt off his back if he could. They don't come much better than the Simpsons. They have given their lives to love their son JJ, whom they adopted a few years back, and they have done everything to give him the world, even if it meant sacrificing for themselves.
We are trusting God to help us meet this need, to take this burden off of Kendra as she needs to rest and heal and recover; as well as for Justin who is doing everything he can to keep his family stay afloat, which has meant lost time with his son and an inability to care for Kendra as she needs.
Would you consider supporting this family? A one-time gift would be so appreciated, or maybe you have the resources to help them out monthly until they can get all this sorted and figured out. Right now, they are afraid they are going to lose their home, and they don't know what recourse they have to stop that from happening except to ask others for help. Please prayerfully consider giving to this loving family.
