Hello! My name is Sara Perry and I am the oldest daughter of Walter and Donna Gholson. On January 18th my mom went into the ER due to extreme shortness of breathe and pain from her right side. Her oxygen levels were very low so they quickly got her back and stable. Over the next week they had drained 2.5 liters of fluid from her right lung, done many tests, and found a mass on her right lung. They ordered a biopsy of the mass and concluded that she did indeed have lung cancer. After being discharged and meeting with the doctor she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She’ll need to have a pleurax put in for the collection of fluid, an MRI will have to be done to see if it’s spread to her brain, as well as a port put in for chemo. Chemo won’t cure it but the should slow it down and/or shrink it. While all these things are happening my dad will be missing lots of work to get mom to and from appointments when I can’t. My parents in no way asked me to do this but I know it will relieve some pressure so they can focus on my mom and whatever the future holds. We appreciate everyone’s support and kind words as we navigate the unknown as a family! What we do know is she is in Gods hands and whatever happens moving forward will be used for the good!
