Saving Grandma Stevie
Donation protected
We're are the grandchildren of Stephanie Dixon, and we are raising money to help with obtaining proper in home healthcare.
Our Grandma Stevie (Stephanie Dixon) moved to Texas from New Jersey in 2016 after she and our Grandfather lost their house in a tragic fire. After immense devastation, they decided to set their sights on Austin, Texas in hopes of achieving a better quality of life closer to family. In addition to this, Austin also had better healthcare options that were more conducive to her overall needs. The condition of her health has been affected since she was just 13 years old after being hit in the head with a snowball. Consequently she was partially paralyzed on the entire left side of her body from the neck down. Even though the quest for consistent healthcare has been an ongoing struggle, Austin has been a great change for both of our grandparents. During their move across the country, however, she often experienced great pain in her lower abdomen. After a visit with her gastroenterologist here in Texas, she was advised to go to the Texas Oncology Center to see a gynecological oncologist for a CT scan where they found a small melon sized tumor on her ovaries that was cancerous, and had also spread to her bladder. On Thursday, June 5th, 2020, Stephanie Dixon was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer.
Receiving treatment for her diagnosis has not been an easy feat. First, our Grandma had to have a port placed, and it took three surgeries before one was successful. She was finally able to undergo her first round of chemo on July 15th, 2020. The day after chemo she experienced even more complications and was advised to seek further medical attention. Her doctors soon discovered an infection (Peritonitis, which is a parastic infection) that would require yet another emergency surgery. They unfortunately had to remove part of her colon in the process Presently our Grandma is in the ICU and will need a full time, at home caregiver when she is released. She has only completed one round of chemo and has to undergo 33 weeks of treatment in order to rid her body of cancer completely. With your help we would be able to provide our Grandma with the care she deserves after such a life altering experience. She is a fighter, and a strong woman. She is an integral part of our family and we want nothing more than for her to be comfortable and cared for properly. Because there isn't much that we can do as her grandchildren, this is what we wanted to do for her to help contribute to her recovery. Process.
With love from her grands,
Tacoya, Jamal, Michael, Daniele, Briane, Shyquan, Kevin, Kahseem, Kevin, Candece and Sofia Dixon.
