Darien's Recovery

The first week Darien was born, we knew he would be extraordinary. Darien was diagnosed with epilepsy at the early age of 11 months when he had his first seizure for two hours! Time went by, doctors changed, and still no answers. Darien currently takes about 6 medications and three that are daily at age 4. Recently, we were informed that Darien was also diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis as well , which has not helped his epilepsy improve at all. He attends Duke Hospital several times a month for infusions and doctor appointments consistently. As parents, you wonder how he can come in the house, take his medicine, laugh, love on mommy, watch "Peppa Pig" , and somehow some way get into something with everthing that he has going on.. :-). He NEVER stops smiling.. NEVER stops being strong for his family.. and most importantly, he NEVER gives up..

   He is the most resilient kid we know. His Journey has been almost 4 years long  and now we will take another step towards improving Darien's quality of life. Darien will undergo  "VNS" surgery on May 20, 2015, which has been known to improve the number of seizures, speech, and hyper activity in epileptic patients.  Doctors have said that Darien's brain activity is compared to one man working 3 full time jobs. Mentally, he does not rest. This surgery will help his brain take a break. It is not a cure, but it is a step towards turning his smile into a testimony of how "they" said he was Significantly delayed....  God is in control.

   This fundraiser is to allow Darien's mommy to take off for his recovery. Her family is asking that everyone come together to make this a stress free time period for her and Big D. He Needs his mommy focus on him and not on work. No dollar amount is too small. Thank you so much in advance.
