For those who don't know me I am Erica, Richard's younger and only sibling.
My brother first started experiencing unknown symptoms one summer, where half his face would just randomly go numb. He did not know what or why that was happening to him. He went to numerous doctors, had multiple tests done and no one knew why it was happening.
I am trying to raise money for my brother, who because of this illness can't do many of the things a person without MS can do. His abilities have become limited and he has had to set boundaries on doing things.
I remember the day that I got a text message from him asking me to call him when I was at work. So, I called him and he told me that he had gotten diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. At first I did not know what this illness was and had no clue how serious it was. When I went back to work, first thing I google searched was if it had a cure. My heart sank when I saw that there is yet to be a cure for this type of illness. I thought why my brother ? Why him ? Someone who has started working ever since he was just 14, someone who has volunteered at a nearby Community Centre running kids after school programs, tutoring and helping around the Centre. Someone who lends a hand when someone reaches out to him and thinks of himself last. Someone who ran from Park Lawn/ Lake Shore area, all the way to Downtown Toronto area.
Due to this illness, my brother cannot work due to the limitations he’s experiencing. - My brother now has to use a cane, because he will unexpectedly
lose his balance when walking. He also has to inject himself daily with his medication. - He cannot go to any where that uses specific lighting. This being because, he will see most things blurry causing him to not be able to function when walking. He now follows a gluten free paleo diet which has shown to help with the MS.
The Money that we raise for my brother will be used for living expenses, strict diet, transportation for hospital visits, tests, and mostly for medication. My family and I are limited financially so any donation would be greatly appreciated.
