Help Kristine Score Her Goal!

Donation protected
Exactly one year ago today, I watched with tears of joy as my beautiful niece, Kristine, shared her wedding vows during a beautiful beach ceremony and entered into the relationship of her dreams and a beautiful marriage.

Kristine is a brave, hard-working college grad who is optimistic, upbeat, and who grabs life with both hands to be sure she’s getting everything she can from it, and giving everything she has to it. She is extraordinary, because she is not just getting through every day, she is LIVING every day.

But we all have our burdens, and Kristine’s is Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Prolong QT Syndrone.  She currently takes about 10 different medications daily as well as getting an IV infusion every 4 weeks for her arthritis.   As her Arthritis continuously compromises her immune system, other issues arise.  For the past four years, she has endured hip problems which have required weekly physical therapy and painful dry needling therapy and she will undergo hip surgery this coming week.  Once surgery is completed, she’ll be ready to recuperate with more physical therapy 2-3 times a week.  She is also scheduled for another surgery in the Spring to update her AICD (Defibrillator).

She’s a fighter!  She is going to take this all on with the same energy that won her the title of Miss Hockey Vermont 2002 – and that’s not a beauty contest.  That’s an award given to the most outstanding female hockey player in the state, and she won it by being the top goal scorer, points leader, and all-around team player in her high school career, a career that earned her attention and recruiting overtures from the top Division One Hockey colleges in the country.

She doesn’t give up easily, my niece.  And even though her life and hockey career has been compromised by her health issues, Kristine has managed to use the same grit and determination she learned on the ice to fight the sometimes debilitating symptoms of her diseases. Prescription pain meds usually make her Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis tolerable, however, many days are so painful that she can’t function. Prolong QT Syndrome causes fast, chaotic heartbeats.  She underwent surgery to implant a device to monitor her heartbeat. When that device, a Defibrillator, goes off, it physically knocks her down and she usually blacks out, which has happened many times.

She’ll survive this. She will live with it gladly and with a smile because SHE GETS TO BE ALIVE.  With her amazing attitude, the hardest part is managing to pay all of the uncovered costs for the health services, co-pays and medications.  Previous surgeries have resulted in her borrowing money that has taken her years to repay. This time, with her two upcoming surgeries, her estimated out of pocket costs, after insurance, is over $20,000.

My goal is to raise that money for her.  Can you help me score this goal by donating to her cause?  Every donation is appreciated and no amount is too small!   Please share this 'support fund' with your friends, family and any others that you think may want to contribute. You can do so using Facebook, Twitter or by simply emailing someone the link.
