Our mother, Jaydene U'ilani Phillips-Tehiva, known as U'i Tehiva, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024. On Sunday, March 17, 2024, U'i suffered a stroke while playing the piano during sacrament meeting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hana Branch. First responders were contacted and rushed to her aide. In need of advanced medical assistance, U'i was driven to the Hana Airport by ambulance to be flown to Maui Memorial Hospital. While in transit, U'i suffered an aneurysm, worsening  condition. Upon arrival to Maui Memorial Hospital, U'i was immediately admitted into the ICU facility where she spent 10 days on life supporting machines.
As a family we made  one of the hardest decisions we could've ever made for our mom. On Tuesday, March 26, we removed her breathing tube and moved her to the Maui Hospice to live the rest of her time in comfort.
Our mother's last moments were spent with her eternal companion, our father, Hatota Tehiva Sr., also known as Braddah Hutts. Together they were a power couple offering every part of them to serve their community.
U'i served the Hana Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints as a pianist, young women's president and activity coordinator. She took great pride in making freshly baked bread for sacrament every Sunday morning.
When bananas were in season, you could bet of having the best banana bread ever from her. Mom recognized her gift of baking and shared her loved filled treats with everyone she could reach. She donated her time, supplies, and presence to numerous organizations across Maui with fundraisers as a food vendor. Providing a delicious menu from the famous Hana food truck, Braddah Hutts BBQ Grill. A business founded and operated by both our mom and dad for the passed 20 years.

U'i was an integral part of our community, church and most importantly, our family.

She is remembered with predeceased son, Hatota Kai"Tapu" Tehiva Jr. Survived by husband Hatota Kaitapu Tehiva Sr., daughters Poerava Tehiva and Teua Diego, sons Lawai'a Tehiva, Mauari'i Tehiva and Oramaragi Tehiva, mother Joycelene Phillips and 12 grandchildren.

It is with deep hearts of gratitude, we thank those who came to share their love for our mom while in the hospital and Hospice.
She gave all she could give while maintaining her role as a business owner, church leader, community contributor, but most of all, wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter.
In this time of difficulty, we ask for your help to give our mother the best send off we can give her. Your donations will be used for all funeral services and medical expenses.
Her legacy lives on in us all. Let us heal together by telling her story and remembering the Heavenly Father she served effortlessly with faith and endurance.

Sincerest Mahalo,
The Tehiva 'Ohana
