Bowie is only 1 and 1/2 years old and came to me from Louisiana. I waited 4 years after I lost my last boy, and this misfit "lab mix" filled a space in my life I hadn't realized was quite so big. Over the past year, I've worked hard to support his recovery and health. He's already had orthodontic surgery and various diagnostics that have drained my emergency dog fund. My vet and I were hoping his rear-end weakness was due to muscle atrophy and would recover with exercise and diet. It has unfortunately not improved. His latest x-rays show significant joint effusions in both his stifles, showing damage that needs repair with TPLO on both legs. He's on NSAID therapy right now and seemingly more comfortable, but this is not a long-term solution, and he needs to be able to be a dog. I feel like a failure to be reaching out for help, but I love him more than my pride.
His surgery and follow-up is being estimated at an additional $8,500 on top of his previous surgeries. Any funds received would go directly towards his medical bills and if, by some miracle, surpassed, would be donated back to a local rescue.
I appreciate you taking the time to read his story whether you are inclined to or able to donate or not. He is an unendingly kind soul who deserves to continue sharing his love with all his two and four-legged friends.
