Christina to Carnegie Hall!

Students all across the country and from places abroad submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing to the 2016 Scholastic Art Awards. Of those, just 2,400 received National Medals. Christina Perry’s artwork is one of the top 1% that received a 2016 Scholastic Awards National Medal. Christina and her family have been invited to attend the National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in NYC in June 2016. Christina joins a legacy of celebrated authors and artists who are alumni of the scholastic award; past recipients of this award include Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Robert Redford and Lena Dunham.
Scappoose High School Sophomore Christina Perry created her magnificent portrait of her grandfather Horst in Art Teacher Ms. Keith’s Art II class in the fall term 2015. Christina’s portrait was meticulously created using graphite on paper. Christina used a traditional grid method to achieve her photo realistic portrait based on a family photo. Christina explained “My grandpa passed in August 2013. He was good at art and loved working with his hands in different ways, like gardening and woodworking. Ever since I was little I looked up to him and admired him. He was my inspiration for my art. I wanted to create my own memorial for him in a way that he would appreciate. I poured my heart into the project and spent many hours working on it.”
Let's all pitch in and see if we can get the family to NYC to attend the awards ceremony! Our goal is to raise $1900.00 the cost of three round trip tickets to NYC. The fund raising deadline is April 15th, so the family has time to get tickets before the June ceremony.
