Donate to Help My Granddaughter Fight Her Illness

Hello, my name is Patricia Feugate and I’m reaching out to you today because my granddaughter Amanda Thomas is facing financial challenges due to her medical illnesses (her mother is April Trail). Amanda suffers from severe Crohn’s disease (gastroduodenal and perianal) and severe Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) which is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that creates painful recurring boil-like abscesses/cysts under and on top of the skin. Both illnesses have limited her day-to-day functions and quality of life. Daily she battles chronic fatigue, joint and abdominal pain, burning skin, abscesses, cysts, swelling of the limbs, diarrhea, fever, open wounds, and unexpected stays in the hospital not to mention the unpleasant symptoms of Perianal Crohn's Disease. Her weakened immune system slows her healing process and it's difficult to afford all the medicine which is why neither disease is in remission.

Amanda is currently undergoing costly treatment for her HS including incision and drainage, deroofing (skin is removed that covers the abscess or tunnel), and excision surgery all of which leaves her in severe pain for days and dealing with open wounds. Her mental health issues have skyrocketed due to the stress of both diseases, trying to work, and figuring out how to pay her medical bills and living expenses.

Unfortunately, the medical expenses are way beyond what her Medicaid covers, and we need help to ensure she gets the treatments and medications she needs to get both diseases in remission. Her monthly costs for her medication, skin treatments (not covered), copays, and therapy are approx. $3500 per month. Many times she has to decide what medication she can’t afford to take which delays her remission. Through all her medical issues Amanda still manages to hold down a job although she misses work due to treatments, hospitalization, or just being too sick. Her mental health issues have increased due to dealing with both diseases, trying to work, and figuring out how to pay her medical bills and living expenses.

Unfortunately, the continued expenses are beyond what her family can continue to pay. A person cannot survive these diseases without these treatments and medications however, at this point, we may not be left with a choice. Asking for financial help is our last resort to help Amanda continue healing so she can finally go into remission and lead a better life.
