UPDATED: Recently I (Paul) the author and son of Robert (pictured with 2 of his grandkids, my kids) have had my colon cancer return and is now in my liver. This is a big hit for our family since dad was recently in the hospital for medical issues and is now back in rehab. We will have to start paying the copays insurance does not cover and also I will have to start paying for my ongoing chemo treatment for this recurrence of my cancer. All I am asking is that you, my friends share the hell out of this, maybe someone out there will be able to help with this. We are close to being in a real bind here finacially, with mom being retired, and on chemo herself for stage 4 colon cancer, taking care of dad when he is home 24/7 and making sure he is taking care of at rehab which is over an hour drive away from the house. Any little bit of help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
MY father has been disabled since having brain surgery in Dec 2013. HE is unable to walk, is on oxygen 24/7 and needs constant care. Right now it is just my family, mainly my mom caring for him, they are both retired and on a fixed income. Medicare covers very little and they have too much coming in to qualify for medicaid. We have gotten the final estimates for the generator. It is a much needed piece of equipment to keep dad at home with any power outages we may have in the future. This past outage was 24 hrs. for us ,but many in the area were without power for 5-7 days. All the medical equipment we have runs on electricity and none have back-up battery power. These pieces of equipment are deemed by medicare as not essential medical equipment and can be not used if necessary. That being said he will literally stop breathing during the night without a bipap machine because he retains co2. Therefore it's off to the hospital for a stay until power is on and they can then send him home from the hospital. The physical and emotional toll on him and the family is huge. It adds to his confusion and to our stress. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Many thanks to the people who have contributed to the gofund me site or who have sent personal checks to us.
