Nancy's Journey

"Over a year ago, I was misdiagnosed with Bell's Palsy. After months of concern and no success of facial movement returning, I was referred to plastics for facial reanimation surgery to recover nerve function for facial paralysis. Biopsies were sent and an unfortunate turn of events and a devastating pathology report showed that I had squamous cell carcinoma along side my cranial nerves in my face and two glands, the salivary and parotid glands. I was then referred to radiation oncology and a candidate for the proton beam. Seven weeks of radiation was completed and follow up scans are in the near future. The next series of facial surgery will be later this spring."
