Dear Potential Supporter,
I am asking for your help to raise the necessary funds in order for me to complete my Master's in Business Administration at Mills College. What I am asking for is not a handout; it's an investment.
This investment clearly supports my future and the future of my three children. It is also a critical contribution towards my aspirations of using my skills and resources to improve the life situations of women and girls like myself who have struggled within the foster care, the juvenile "justice", and prison systems. We've all been blessed to have at least a second chance at life, and other women, especially the most poorly served, should too.
Using myself as an example, through the support and mentorship of women who've been where I've been, I've made a 180 degree over my life's course. No one from my past, myself included, could have imagined that I would emerge from the trauma of being an orphan, street hustler, high school drop-out, victim of abuse and more, to become a college graduate and an MBA candidate. This transformation is a testament to the resilience and fearlessness of the human spirit, and our collective compassion and commitment to social change. Everyone deserves a chance at a quality life, no matter where they come from.
Right now, I'm at a critical juncture in my own journey. I have completely exhausted my financial aid eligibility and the eligible leave of absences for my MBA program at Mills. I'm also unable to receive private loans because despite my good credit, my low-income and high dept ratio makes me a risky bank investment. However, I still have four courses left in order to fulfill the requirements for graduation: Microeconomics, Managerial Economics, Operations Management and Strategic Management.
This means I need to raise a total of $15,000.00 in order for me to pay my tuition and graduate. Here is the break down: For the two Econ. courses, I need to take them at Cal State East Bay. I would enroll in their Open University which is an extention offered to students that attend other universities. Each course is $1216.00 which totals $2432.00. I would also like to include $500.00 for books and transportation costs. I need to pass each course with a B or higher in order to be accepted back into my program at Mills. This will fulfill my requirements. At this point, I am only asking for $3000.00. I plan on enrolling in these courses July of this year. I want to show everyone that I am truly focused on this goal. Once I have completed the two courses, I will inform everyone of my success of fulfilling my first goal. My second goal would be to ask for your support once again for the remainder amount of $12,000.00. This will allow me to complete my MBA at Mills. For the last two courses, I can only take them at Mills College because they are my core classes. Once everything is complete, I will have offically earned my MBA!
Now with your support, I can pay the remaining costs for my education rather than lose out on the nearly $180,000.00 that I've invested in this dream. I will NOT let it go without a fight! I have sacrificed my family, (and my sanity) in order to accomplish my goal of obtaining my MBA, and I will do it!! Asking for support is one of the most difficult things to do, but I know that I simply cannot do it on my own. I make just enough to prevent my family from homelessness.
Please help me provide a more fruitful life for my children so that they will not have to suffer and endure what I have had to. I have made it so far in my life when I could of given up on everything years ago. I have worked tremendously hard to break cycles that have destroyed my family for generations. I have survived a life that was not guaranteed, earned a freedom that was hard fought, and cultivated a life of my own. Please help me to continue this dream and work towards enabling others to do the same.
Thank you and humbly yours,
Ieeshea Romero
