Hi everyone,
My name is Krisztina and I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but I’m reaching out for help to save my beloved dog, Coco
Coco is a 5-year-old female Boston Terrier who we rescued just four weeks ago. I found her listed for sale on Gumtree. Coco was used for breeding and I learnt that owner/breeder who was selling her, was actually her second owner/breeder. I also learnt that Coco had complications during her last whelping and required cesarean and had only one pup or one that survived; therefore, she was no longer considered “useful” for breeding.
When I saw her picture on Gumtree, I knew I had to help her and give her the loving home she deserved.
Falling in love with Coco was easy. She’s gentle, loving, and all she ever wants is to be close, curled up on our lap.
We had already booked an appointment with our local veterinarian for next week to discuss desexing and her future care. Unfortunately, before we could get there, everything changed.
Today (7/02/2026), Coco started having a brownish discharge from her vulva, which we initially thought might be the start of a heat cycle. However, the discharge quickly became thicker and purulent, and I knew that something is wrong, so we rushed her to the Emergency Vet. After examination and an ultrasound, Coco was diagnosed with Pyometra, a serious and life-threatening uterine infection that requires immediate emergency surgery.
Without surgery, Coco’s uterus could rupture, and she could deteriorate very quickly.
Coco was admitted to the Emergency Vet today to undergo surgery as soon as possible. The estimated cost of her surgery is $5,000–$6,000 if everything goes well and she’s able to come home tomorrow morning. If she needs to remain hospitalised longer, the cost increases by an additional $1,000–$1,500 for every 12 hours of care.
Unfortunately, we hadn’t yet been able to take out pet insurance for Coco, as we were not provided with her full veterinary history — only a vaccination certificate with her last vaccination — which delayed our ability to insure her. This unexpected emergency has come far sooner than we ever could have imagined or financially prepared for.
On top of this, I am personally dealing with my own health issues and am currently awaiting to undergo gynaecological surgery/biopsy, which has made this situation even more overwhelming.
Coco has already been through so much in her life. She is finally learning what it means to be safe, loved and cared for. We cannot bear the thought of losing her just as she’s found her forever home.
I am asking, with deep gratitude, for any help you can offer — whether it’s a donation of any amount or simply sharing this fundraiser. Every contribution will go directly toward:
• Coco’s emergency surgery
• Hospitalisation
• Medications and recovery
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Coco’s story and for supporting us during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness truly means the world to us.
With love and gratitude,
Krisztina
