Keep the dream afloat

I’m devastated to be writing this.

This morning I was informed that my boat - which was my home during Covid, and had been my dream for years - was taken without my permission from its mooring and then sailed onto the reef in Tahiti.

I am hoping to raise funds for an urgent recovery operation: to be able to get the boat off the reef and taken to the nearest safe location to begin repairs, before she or the reef is damaged any further.

Promise V was and I hope can be again a wonderful sailing boat. I bought the boat after the death of my mother in 2019 and sailed in her honour from Greece to Tahiti, a dream we both shared. I had hoped to continue the journey to New Zealand to visit my grandad.

I always made sure to share the journey with as many eager sailors as possible along the way, making new friends and cherished memories, whilst trying to pass on as much of my knowledge and love of sailing and adventure as I could.

She has suffered extensive damage and is currently still perilously close to large breaking waves.

I’m working under a very tight deadline set by local marine authorities, after which they’ll take over themselves, and likely completely dismantle and scrap Promise.

All donations will be used to try to save PromiseV and will be hugely, eternally appreciated. Thank you all so much for taking the time to consider this cause.

Estoy devastado por escribir esto.

Esta mañana me informaron que mi barco, que fue mi hogar durante el Covid y mi sueño durante años, fue sacado de su amarre sin mi permiso y luego navegó hacia el arrecife de Tahití.

Espero recaudar fondos para una operación de recuperación urgente: poder sacar el barco del arrecife y llevarlo al lugar seguro más cercano para comenzar las reparaciones, antes de que ella o el arrecife sufran más daños.

Promise V fue y espero que pueda volver a ser un maravilloso velero. Compré el barco tras la muerte de mi madre en 2019 y navegué en su honor desde Grecia hasta Tahití, un sueño que ambos compartíamos. Tenía la esperanza de continuar el viaje a Nueva Zelanda para visitar a mi abuelo.

Siempre me aseguré de compartir el viaje con tantos marineros entusiastas como fuera posible a lo largo del camino, haciendo nuevos amigos y recuerdos preciados, mientras intentaba transmitir la mayor cantidad posible de mis conocimientos y amor por la navegación y la aventura.

Ha sufrido grandes daños y actualmente todavía se encuentra peligrosamente cerca de grandes olas rompientes.

Estoy trabajando bajo un plazo muy ajustado establecido por las autoridades marinas locales, después del cual ellas mismas se harán cargo y probablemente desmantelarán y desecharán por completo a Promise.

Todas las donaciones se utilizarán para intentar salvar PromiseV y serán enormemente apreciadas eternamente. Muchas gracias a todos por tomarse el tiempo para considerar esta causa.
