Help Dean fight Myelofibrosis
Donation protected
On May 22nd, 2018 my loving father, Dean Rutherford, was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, myelofibrosis. Nobody can ever be prepared when told they need to fight for their life. It takes a toll in every way possible. Needless to say, our family is heartbroken, but keeping our faith strong to endure this long battle is extremely important.
My dad serves as a prison chaplin in Arizona. He is a faithful husband, father of two (three including his maltipoo, Monty), and grandfather of four. We couldn’t imagine this life without him and know that the Lord gives his toughest struggles to his strongest soldiers. We need him here to spoil his grandkids and see them grow. To teach them how to shoot a basketball and catch a football. He has spent his whole life preaching and we know that he hasn’t finished spreading the good word of our Lord and Savior into his grandchildren’s hearts and many others. His work here is not finished and we need all of the support and prayers we can get.
He is currently undergoing several chemo therapy treatments and is scheduled for a bone marrow biopsy in late March, followed by a transplant in April. If all goes accordingly he will be in for a long road to recovery for the following 9 months, maybe more. During those 9 months he will be unable to work and his dear wife, my mother, Bernadette, will be his caretaker and unable to work for an extended period of time as well. Being the humble individuals that my parents are, they were reluctant to ask for much help. But we know that prayer in numbers is powerful and are determined to help in any way we can.
We are making this GoFundMe to request prayers and donations to make this fight a little less stressful both spiritually and financially. We want my dad’s focus to be on getting better and not to be on being financially stressed. Any amount is more than appreciated and all prayers are more than welcomed.
We understand that not everyone is able to donate, we ask that at the very least, please share our story in hopes to spread the word as well as awareness to this rare form of cancer.
Thank you and God Bless you!
Updates to be posted after surgery.
