To all my dear family, friends, neighbors and colleagues:
As you are well aware Nepal is in a dire state after two major earthquakes. I am honored to be joining a medical mission with the Delaware Medical Relief Team (DMRT). In conjunction with Team Ange, I had the pleasure of collaborating directly with this team in Haiti and together we were able to touch hundreds of thousands of lives. Now we rejoin forces to extend our hands to those so desperately in need in Nepal. This Saturday, I will be joining a fourth medical team of 2 doctors, 2 nurses and a logistics assistant. Our exact location will be determined as our departure date approaches based on need and could easily change when we arrive.
Here is an update from the DMRT teams already on the ground as of 5/12/15:
Even before yesterday's second earthquake delivered a terrible second shock to a traumatized people, the medical need in Nepal has not abated. It has only changed from an acute mass-casualty event to now place at severe risk a vulnerable population that lacked adequate or widespread medical resources in the first place. Our actions are urgently needed as more and more communities are reachable as roads open in remote parts of the earthquake zone. Most of these communities have been totally cut off from aid for 2 weeks. Food insecurity and housing vulnerabilities are creating suffering and exposure that require medical attention. The need is great. We ask for your help to be able to respond to the best of our abilities.
Medical Volunteers are still urgently needed for future DMRT teams – doctors, PAs, NPs, RNs, EMTs, paramedics -- of all skills and specialities. We also urgently need non-medical volunteers capable of supporting the medical teams to take care of on the ground logistics.
Please consider donating to this cause. As a small NGO working directly with grassroots organizations in Nepal, you can rest assured that all of your donations will go directly to the Nepalese.
