Help my mama stay home
Donation protected
**update** First of all, I want to thank every single one of you on behalf of mama, myself, papa, Joanne, my brother Matt and his wife, Angela, etc.
Mama reads the messages and donations etc. and just keeps shaking her head and saying “awwwww” like she can’t believe the amount of people who love and care for her.
I’m sure you’re all sick or me sharing this gofundme, but we still need a lot more funding. And like I’ve said before, it’s in the post where you can send me an email money transfer so no percentage is taken from gofundme if you feel more comfortable with that. [email redacted]
For example of costs, the rental of the specialized wheelchair and the outside cathedar in mom’s diaper is quite far over $600 per month. That doesn’t include the price of the diapers, wipes, cream, etc. We bought a pack of diapers for her today - 8 diapers for $23. Just to give an example of how absolutely ridiculous the prices are for people in need.
So, again, thank you all beyond from all of us for the donations, well wishes, meals, visits, etc.
But if you’re able to donate anything at all, or know anyone who has the ability to, would be amazing. Mama and papa make less per year combined than a lot of people (1 person) make per year.
And like I’ve said before, if you can’t donate, just click that share button
Hi there, my name is Brittany, and as most of you know, my sweet mama had a devastating stroke on February 4th. She was in the ICU and then transferred to the stroke unit at the Bridgewater hospital, where she still is. She had a deep brain bleed and they weren’t able to do anything to bring her back to normal. She is paralyzed on her right side and they said she would never speak again. However, I’m happy to say that she can now say a few words, including the most precious phase, “I love you”.
About a week ago, we had a family meeting with mom’s hospital team (doctor, nurse, physio, speech, occupational therapist, etc.)
We all know that it would be in mom’s best interest to be placed into a nursing home but we also all know that mom is adamant about not going to one and just wants to come home. It was a very difficult conversation to have, but by the end of it, we all agreed that although it’s going to be very difficult; she will receive the most love at home and will get adequate care. She will primarily be cared for by her husband, Brian, who unfortunately has challenges of his own. Homecare will also assist daily.
In order for her to come home, she requires a certain hospital bed, a special wheelchair, a lift, a bedside hospital table, soaker sheets, etc etc. The list is ongoing. They also have to make changes to their home to install a ramp, cut doorways to make them wider, etc.
The hospital checked pricing for all of these requires items (minus the house repairs) and just to RENT the necessary equipment is over $1000 per month. Both my mom and step-dad are low income and this is going to be extremely hard to afford. My mom sold her house less than a year ago so that she could retire after working hard for well over 30 years. 30+ of those years being at the same law firm.
My sweet mama certainly hasn’t had the luckiest or easiest life and none of us ever expected this to happen to her at the young age of 61. To say we are devastated is an understatement. Mom has been crying every day lately because she wants to come home.
If you are able to donate any amount, it would be so greatly appreciated. If you’re not able to, just hitting the share button would be appreciated.
Thank you all so very much.
