My name is Joe Robichaud and I am a cancer survivor. I live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Fifty four years ago I was diagnosed with cancer.
I was 12 years old. After many surgeries to remove the tumour, it was determined to be bone cancer. In 1963 there were no chemotherapy or radiation therapy treatments.
The only option was to amputate my left leg, with no assurance the cancer would not return, 54 years later, I am cancer free.
As a child, one of the things I missed the most was riding my bicycle. The purpose of this crowd funding campaign is to raise funds to cover expenses for the CycleAbility Challenge Ride 2018, a 700km ride I will undertake on my bike from Sydney, Nova Scotia to Yarmouth to raise funds to purchase adaptive bikes for children with disabilites.
Funds raised will be used specifically to offset the cost of Ride 2018. We require a support/RV vehicle, gas for the vehicle, food for onsite volunteers, and miscellaneous expenses. We estimate the Ride duration to be 2-3 weeks.
Funds raised during the ride will be donated to the IWK Foundation to provide adaptive bikes for children with disabilities.
Thank you so much for your support.
