New Orleans is currently one of the hotspots for COVID-19 in the United States. With the rapid rise of cases in the city, as well as having neighbors, friends, and family in the health care field, it became apparent to me that taking care of our community health care professionals needed to be a priority for all of us. With the help of your donations, these funds continue to be used to buy various PPE (personal protective equipment). The supplies are being distributed as requested to our local hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, community health clinics, rehabilitation centers, and to emergency first responders throughout the city and neighboring areas.
Upon beginning this endeavor, I reached out to local hospital administrators and employees, nursing home administrators, ambulatory care services and hospitalists through social media and personal phone calls/emails. I have developed a solid rapport with these individuals. The contacts that I am in communication with have steered the decision making for the purchase of the necessary PPE materials using our funds. Once the supplies are ordered, they are then delivered directly to my house in the city. With the help of a small team, the supplies are organized to be delivered to the requested locations and contact person. I have coordinated and personally delivered the majority of the ordered PPE. The PPE that is being ordered includes: FDA approved plastic face shields, surgical and N95 masks, thermometers, hand sanitizer, rubber gloves, and protective gowns.
Every facility that we have made deliveries to has shown tremendous appreciation and expressed how imperative the need was for the received supplies. I am so thankful to live in a city with such a special community. Together we are making a difference.
