Brooklyn's medical fund

Your assistance is needed. Brooklyn's current condition leaves her needing several, very expensive machines and treatments when she is able to leave the hospital and come home.  Also her past and current medical treatment and care has resulted in mounting medical bills for Stacey.  Our goal is for Brooklyn to get the best care at home so that she can be comfortable.  These machines will do a lot to prevent infections and in return,  future trips to the hospital for long stays.   We are grateful that you are here, reading Brooklyn's story and anything that you can contribute would be valued and appreciated more than words could ever express.  Brooklyn was born 1/20/17 a healthy beautiful baby girl, loved to pieces by her Mom, Dad, big sister and family. Her first few months at home were wonderful, but by the time Brooklyn was around 4 months of age things started to change and were more noticable. Her movement was decreasing, she was struggling drinking her bottles and we knew something was wrong. At 6 months old she was hospitalized, she had lost her ability to swallow and had a feeding tube placed in her belly. During her 12 day hospital stay they were trying to figure out what was wrong. Within a few weeks from this event she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 - a genetic neuromuscular disease that causes muscles to progressively weaken and die because of a missing gene. There is no cure for SMA, however Brooklyn is on a drug therapy that, at the time of her diagnosis was brand new and just FDA approved. This drug is supposed to slow down/stop the progression of muscle loss and possibly help to regain strength in time. Brooklyn lives at home and her Mother and Grandmother take care of her soley due to specific homecare needs. She has all kinds of medical equipment at home that help with her breathing and keeping her lungs clear.     With SMA all types of problems can occur, especially when it comes to respiritory functions. The lack of muscle strength makes it hard for her to cough to clear her lungs and breathe. So a little cold can end up as a hospital stay or worse. Which is where Brooklyn is today. In January of this year she was hospitalized due to a virus, it had caused respiritory failure and she was placed on a ventilator. She celebrated her first birthday at Children's Hospital of Buffalo. It was tough, but she's a tough little cookie and nine days later she was home. Being home only lasted about 2 weeks and now she is currently back in the hospital from repository distress due to pneumonia. She is on a machine that takes pressure off her lungs so she can breathe easier while fighting off pneumonia and clearing her lungs. She is in stable but guarded condition and holding her own. We are hoping to bust free soon and head home.  Brooklyn is a fighter and has such a good spririt even through having such a rough time in life so far. Her journey however, has only just begun. She has a long road ahead in life but with so much Love and support we know she's going to excell.
