Braxton's Journey

Braxton was born on April 2,2020 at Children's Hospital in Omaha,NE. He was born with several congenital heart defects; Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), Aortic Stenosis, VSD, Coarctation of Aorta and Mitral Atresia. Braxton has been in the hospital since birth, 90 plus days so far. At birth he was taken to the cath lab for a stent placement in a vertical vein. A week later he had the Norwood procedure which is one of three open heart surgeries for HLHS. He ended up with a blood infection, sepsis. About a week or so after he had to be taken emergently to the OR to have his PA bands tightened. After a routine head ultrasound they saw he had a brain bleed. The bleed turned into hydrocephalus which led us to being life flighted to Children's Mercy in Kansas City on May 11th. Children's in Omaha doesn't have a neurosurgeon so we had to be transferred to somewhere that could support his neuro and cardiac needs. A VP shunt was placed to help relieve the fluid from his brain the next morning. We spent a week in Kansas City until we could transfer back to Children's in Omaha.

On June 22nd Braxton had the next surgery he needed for HLHS, the Glenn procedure along with the DKS procedure for an obstruction he had.  The surgeon also try to repair the triscupid valve but replaced it instead. Braxton went back down to the OR emergently 3 times in one week because of the shunt clotting and the valve failing twice. He also has 3 new bleeds on his brain that they are watching very closely. Braxton is proving his strength through all of this. My husband and I make a 4 hour trip multiple times a week so one of us can work and be with our other children and the other stays with our son.  It has been a very long road with a lot more to go.

All contributions are greatly appreciated and will help to alleviate any financial burdens (medical expenses, travel, food, lost income) we incur during this devastating time. If you are unable to donate, please share his story.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous out pour of love and support.
